The late lamented Flyer List Archive is back.   In the following paragraphs, Nigel Webb covers most of the questions you might have.   Further queries should be forwarded either to him or to the List admins. |
What is the archive? The Archive is a web-location where all list postings can be browsed at leisure, either by date, or by thread. The list has always had an archive, and this was only interrupted in January this year by the enforced migration of the list from Flyer’s servers to those of Warp9 Internet. The move to Warp9 was originally intended to be for a period of only 8-12 weeks, so no archiving was set up. Now (September 2002 - ed), some 8 months later, we thought it was time to re-establish the old tradition.Where is it?The archive is accessible at: http://www.flyerlist.org.uk/archiveWhat are the security procedures? In order to protect the archive from being harvested by the various automated “Spambots”, that roam the WWW, access to the archives is password controlled. This low level of security is not intended to be infallible, but is felt sufficient to prevent the automated collecting of subscriber-addresses.When you browse to the archive address, you will be challenged for a username and password. Rather than publishing them here, hopefully for obvious reasons, the best thing would be to contact the Admins if you can't remember them. When does the archive date from?Recording started on 1st September 2002.What if I object to a particular posting? If you object to a particular thread or posting on either legal or other grounds, you should contact the Admins (the admin email address can be found in the footer of List postings), giving your reasons, and they will arrange for the offending posting to be removed from the Archives if the reason is felt to be sound. Can all of my postings be omitted from the archive?Any posting made to the list will be stored on the archive. Where good reason exists to delete a posting from the archive, this will be done for you on request. We will not systematically exclude the postings of any one user from the archive. What about copyright?Copyright on all messages belongs to the individual message authors. This fact is acknowledged in the footer of each message, and the footer is retained in the archive. Information which is felt to be of a confidential nature is posted to the list at the poster’s discretion. What about privacy? The Admins strongly advise you to regard the list as a public forum over whose membership nobody has effective control. Do not post material to the list that you are not happy seeing displayed in the archive. Are the old archives still available? They are, for the time being. Those archives use the same system as our current archives, and are available at http://lists.flyer.co.uk/archive. The username for this site is “flyer”, and you should use your e-mail address as the password. These archives are not under our direct control, and whilst we may be able to help you if you encounter problems, they come with no guarantees.Best regards Nigel Webb |
